Depth scoring over the last ten games

Through the first 15 games of the season, the Dallas Stars top line of Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov had accounted for half of the team’s goals (21 of 42). Over the last ten games, it’s been a much different story. The depth scoring has picked up the pace and the big three’s share of the goal scoring has dropped to 31 percent (10 of 32 goals).

It was after those first 15 games that Stars coach Ken Hitchcock broke up the top line of Benn, Seguin and Radulov to get more people involves and spread the wealth offensively. It’s been working. More players have been chipping in, and the Stars have been playing well.

Hitchcock put the big three back together for last night’s game in Chicago with Martin Hanzal out due to injury, saying that he was more comfortable with it now that other players were “up and running.” And again, scoring throughout the lineup was key in the 4-3 overtime win over the Blackhawks. Mattias Janmark scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, and Radek Faksa and Remi Elie also scored.

Faksa has led the way in goal scoring over the past ten games with six and ten forwards have scored at least two. Here’s a look at the goal scoring totals over the past ten games during which the Stars are 6-3-1.
