Quotable: Bishop, Hitchcock on Tuesday’s goaltending decision

Here are quotes from Stars goaltender Ben Bishop and coach Ken Hitchcock on Bishop being pulled six minutes into the second period with the Stars down 3-2 to Colorado in Denver Tuesday night. Bishop wasn’t thrilled with the move and Hitchcock said it was about delivering a message to the team.

Bishop: “There was no reason for me to come out. I guess that’s the coach’s decision. It was a 3-2 hockey game with more than half the game left, so I am not very happy with the decision. There is still a lot of hockey left and it is a 3-2 game. I felt good. Not very happy with the decision.”

Hitchcock: “It was time to make a change. We were slow and dozy across the board. Everybody, the whole team, needed a wake-up call. … It has nothing to do with Ben Bishop. It has to do with wake up, let’s get playing, and that’s exactly what we did. It has nothing to do with Ben, and I’ll do the same with any other goaltender. If I think it is going to help the team and change their mindset, I’ve got to do whatever it takes.”
