Here’s the lineup for tonight’s game. The Stars didn’t run lines or defense pairs this morning, so I’ll just give you the expected list of players expected to go tonight. Kari Lehtonen is expected to play the entire game. Ken Hitchcock did indicate we’ll probably see a line of Mattias Janmark, Jason Spezza and Brett Ritchie. They’ve been together most of camp/preseason. Same group of defensemen as last night except Greg Pateryn will replace Patrik Nemeth.
Forwards: Jason Dickinson, Remi Elie, Roope Hintz, Mattias Janmark, Tyler Pitlick, Alexander Radulov, Brett Ritchie, Antoine Roussel, Tyler Seguin, Devin Shore, Gemel Smith, Jason Spezza
Defense: Julius Honka, Stephen Johns, John Klingberg, Esa Lindell, Jamie Oleksiak, Greg Pateryn
Goaltenders: Ben Bishop, Kari Lehtonen (starter)
Here’s Stars coach Ken Hitchcock when asked how much ice time a young forward would need to be playing in order to make the NHL roster.
“I think it is in the lineup every night. Look, if you are not going to play a young guy that has a chance to play in the minors and he is not going to play every night, you’ve got to give him a chance to keep his game in order. But there is a second thing too. And that is you have to respect contracts. If the guys are the same, then obviously the one-way stays and the two-way goes down. That’s just the economics of the game. We’ve got to pay respect to that too. What’s been good for us and difficult for [GM] Jim [Nill] is that some of the younger guys who can go down have been pushing the older guys who have contracts. That’s what competition is about, and that’s what is taking place here. I know it’s going to make it a very difficult job for Jim but at the end of the day that is what you want.”
