Stars postgame quotes

Here are some quotes following Monday’s 4-2 preseason loss to Colorado at American Airlines Center. These quote are provided by Dallas Stars PR.

Stars Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

On the play of his top line this preseason:

“There’s some certain chemistry that you can see. We see it at practice. The next dynamic is to trust your work and it’s a group that’s learning to trust it’s work rather than skill.  When they do that they have a chance to be very dynamic but I think that’s why the top line is going to be a very good line. It’s interesting that they’ve been very good, two games in a row now, when the game has been on the line.  We had control of the game in the second period and they were really playing well. They also played well in the third period. For me, the potential is there but it’s understanding that you’ve got to trust your work and the skill will come after that.”

On Jamie Oleksiak playing both sides on defense:

“Well that’s an evaluation on a couple of the other guys. We’ve made up our mind on Jamie and I think I’ve been pretty direct on that. He’s had an outstanding camp, he’s played great and he’s just sound as heck. We’ve moved past our evaluation of him and we’re evaluating other people. We did get a very good luck at some of the others. I thought Stephen Johns was excellent and this is two games in a row that Stephen has played really well which is a good sign. We’re also looking at other evaluations but now we know that Jamie can play both sides. I think he’s equally as good on the right as he is on the left which is a good thing for us.”

On the play of Julius Honka:

“He’s a young player that deferred to a more experienced player (on the empty netter). A week from now he’s going to shoot that puck and we’re going to be facing off at center ice. He brings a dynamic that not many teams have where we’re down two goals and he’s controlling the hockey game which is exactly what you’re going to need. It’s going to be a grind for him as he’s not a real big player but he’s getting better every day which is a real good sign. If we’re not ready to play him on a regular or semi-regular basis then that decision will get taken out of our hands but right now he’s fighting for a spot and he’s getting better.”

On the play of Devin Shore:

“He’s outstanding. He’s had a great camp, he’s played great in the games and has been arguably our best forward at times. He and (Roope) Hintz have shown a great chemistry together. He’s been outstanding and that’s really good to see.”

Stars Defenseman Julius Honka

On tonight’s game against the Avalanche:

Honestly, I felt pretty good today out there. Everybody had a good feel and good pressure but just couldn’t execute. I think, overall, we played very good and had chances but we just couldn’t get a goal.”

On his goal:

“Lots of teams try to block a lot of shots, so you need to make a little fake before you shoot. I just felt like I had room there to skate in and just make the play.”

On his game over the course of the preseason:

“I think it’s good to get comfortable and feel confident in there. I think personally I’ve played some of my best games. That’s what it is, exhibition games you start to get that feeling to prepare for the regular season.”

Stars Goaltender Ben Bishop

On playing a complete game:

“I thought the team played pretty well; a really good game, actually. I thought they deserved to win. [Jonathan Bernier] played really well and kept them in there. As far as myself, kind of a tough one off Jamie [Benn] the first one, but then I felt pretty good. I felt a lot better than I did the first game. Still a little bit of rust on there, some good and some bad, but definitely better than the first game. Hopefully the next game will be a little better.”

On building a relationship with the defense:

“It’s going to work itself out. I think you saw it tonight a couple times in the third, with [Patrik Nemeth] and myself almost running into each other. I think it’s one of those things that the more you play together, you’ll figure it out. It’s a good time for that stuff to happen now in the preseason. Like I said overall the team played a pretty good game, obviously the result wasn’t there, but I thought the game was there and we’ll just keep building on this.”
