Stars postgame quotes

Here are some quotes from the Dallas Stars following their 5-3 preseason win over St. Louis Tuesday night. These quotes are provided by Stars PR.

Stars Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

On a game with so much special teams play:

“You’ve got to cut it down to which ones are our responsibilities.  I thought that there were at least half of them that were on us.  Those are things we’ve got to get better at.  You’re evaluating individuals, and trying to evaluate your team play and you’re trying to evaluate the competitiveness of your team.  I thought we competed hard and I thought we played bizarre at times, but I thought we gathered it in really well in the end.  I think that there are a lot of good things we can build on but if you’re looking for evaluation, the people that we were looking at like Janmark, Shore, Dickinson, Roussel, Ritchie, they gave a good account of themselves so that’s a good sign.  It’s going to be like this for two or three games until we get used to the standard and we’re going to have to make the adjustments.”

On the Stars penalty kill:

“I thought it was really good.  We made a couple of mistakes like the one we made off the rush but that’s very correctible, that’s just communication.  They’re not used to playing that way and we got caught chasing the same player.  That’s just the difference in a system but I thought we did a great job.  For the most part, that was the best part of our game.”

On the health of Mattias Janmark and the rest of the team:

“We came through 100% healthy, including him, so that’s a good sign.  It’s all hands on deck for when we get back to work.  We’re going to take Wednesday off and get back to work on Thursday.  We’ll bring a hard-working lineup into Colorado with a lot of guys who earned a chance through camp will get their chance.  We’ll narrow it down after that a little bit.”

Stars Captain Jamie Benn

On special teams play:

We definitely got a chance to work on both sides of the specialty game. It probably was not as good as we wanted. That was a lot of penalties, and a lot of stick work, that we need to clean up. If they’re going to be calling it like that during the season, we’ve got to be a lot more careful.”

On penalty kill:

“I think a victory is giving up zero. Like I said, we had a lot of work on the special teams. Tonight we had some good and some bad, we’ll try and take some positive out of it. We still have a lot of work to do”.

Stars Forward Mattias Janmark

On how he felt about his first game back:

“I felt good. The first period was tough, I played quite a lot and there was a lot of penalty killing and a lot of skating. I was pretty tired and I didn’t know how I’d get through the game. In the second period, I got my power back and felt better in the third.”

On his performance:

“It’s preseason, but obviously it’s better to score than not to. It’s a nice feeling and I felt like I could keep up with the speed of the game.”
